The North Western Dahlia Society
Events For 2007
Thursday April 5th at Endmoor Club starting at 8.00 pm.
A film on a year in the life of a dahlia grower and shower. This film has been
made about Don Kershaw and is very good. Sandwiches and a raffle will follow the
showing as they will at all our talks and presentations.
As Don has won the only other two Vagabonds “mystery dahlia growing prises” and
has plundered £150.00 off us, he has decided to give us all a chance and step
down this year and supply the mystery plant himself (one of his new seedlings).
These plants were going to be sold at the Northern AGM but as the plants are
running a bit behind schedule, he will be distributing them at this film show
instead.
Thursday May 3rd at Endmoor Club at 8pm.
A talk and slide show by Frank Taylor, aimed at the less experienced grower but
I am sure the rest of us will pick something up as well along the way. Please
come along and if you know someone who is interested in Dahlias who we have not
invited bring them along. They will be made very welcome. At this talk Frank
will be bringing plants to sell, many of them being brand new releases and as
usual will be donating some of the money to the society.
Barry Kenyon will be bringing plants for sale as well and the money received
will be going to the society.
Thursday September 6th at Ashton Memorial Hall Lancaster.
Our Annual Show. Staging is from 6pm on Wednesday 5th overnight to 0930am on
Thursday 6th. Our new venue was a great success last year and the new date
brought more exhibitors as it does not clash now with any other shows. The
facilities at the Hall are wonderful, in the middle of Williamsons Park high on
a hill above Lancaster. A café close to the hall and fantastic views across
Morecombe Bay to the Lake District and Barrow. People receiving this letter will
automatically be sent a schedule nearer the time.
Thursday October 4th at Endmoor Club at 8pm.
A talk and slide show from Dave Matthewman. Dave as most of you know is a
professional sweet pea grower who has appeared on television many times. He puts
up stands at all the major gardening shows virtually taking a large gold at
every show. How he finds time to grow and show Dahlias has always amazed me but
he does and has done very successfully for a great number of years. We have not
asked him what to talk on, we are leaving it up to him.
Thursday November 1st at Endmoor Club at 8pm.
A PowerPoint presentation from Ian Greenhalgh on setting up and maintaining an
Organic Kitchen Garden.
We thought we would have at least one talk that was away from dahlias a bit but
knowing Ian I think there will be some shots of dahlias straying into the
pictures.
Thursday December 6th at Endmoor Club at 8pm.
The Annual General Meeting will be held followed by a talk from Don Suttcliffe
on New Varieties and who did what around the Top Dahlia Shows of 2007.Hopefully
The Club and its members will do as well if not better than they did in 2006.
Saturday January 19th 2008
The
Annual Dinner at Crooklands will take place. A few people are already booked in
